Thirty-six years after the original outlaw squad first rode across the big screen, Kiefer Sutherland has confirmed that a long-awaited Western reunion is finally moving closer to reality. The actor dropped a major update on Young Guns 3: Dead or Alive, revealing that a completed script is already making the rounds among the original cast. At the Young Guns panel at FanX Salt Lake, the actor said, “But I promise you, the script is amazing, and it’s going to be with Lou and Emilio and a new cast.” While a shooting date is yet to be confirmed, Lou Diamond Phillips, who was also on the panel, indicated that Emilio Estevez, who starred in the first two movies as Billy the Kid, is looking to get the project off the ground. Estevez has been attached to the project for quite some time, looking to reprise his role as Billy the Kid. He is also in line to direct the movie. What were the first two Young Guns movies about? Young Guns, which first came out in 1988, was a Western action movie. It starred Emilio Estevez, Kiefer Sutherland, Lou Diamond Phillips, Charlie Sheen, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Siemaszko, among others, in key roles. The movie followed Estevez’s Billy the Kid, the famous outlaw and gunfighter from the Old West. The movie dramatized his exploits during the 1877 Lincoln County War in New Mexico. The 1990 sequel, Young Guns II, begins in 1950 with an elderly man named Brushy Bill Roberts claiming to be Billy the Kid as he meets a lawyer to claim the official pardon promised to him decades earlier by the Governor of New Mexico. The narrative then flashes back to 1881, following Billy as he stages a daring prison breakout to rescue his former companions before making a run for the Mexican border.
