Paul Bettany reacts to Jac Schaeffer’s VisionQuest departure During a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Paul Bettany candidly discussed Jac Schaeffer’s departure from the show and its impact on him. Schaeffer, who created both WandaVision and Agatha All Along, was initially the head writer on VisionQuest. But she had left by May 2024, and Terry Matalas has boarded the project. Bettany told EW that Schaeffer left for “personal reasons,” before adding, “I felt like the rug had been pulled from under my feet. I love her very much, and we made a lovely thing together. I had been waiting and looking forward to having my turn with Jac. And then 24 hours later, I was at a lunch with Terry, because that’s the speed at which Marvel moves.” Back in October 2024, Schaeffer herself addressed her decision to walk away from VisionQuest. “Yeah, [Agatha All Along and VisionQuest] overlapped in a way that wasn’t tenable for me, and it was with a very heavy heart that I realized that it logistically wouldn’t work for me. But I am so looking forward to that show,” she said. Schaeffer added that she was “just an enormous cheerleader” for everyone involved in the project, especially Paul. Schaeffer still serves as an executive producer on the series. As for Matalas, after he joined the project, he met with Bettany to clarify the latter’s ideas about the character’s future.
