Paladin threatens to leave Tommy there unless Vision surrenders himself. Vision walks into the trap knowing the danger, but sonic pulses weaken his systems. His mind palace begins to deteriorate, and the A.I. programs inside start to glitch. Paladin also shoots Vision with adamantium rounds that damage his vibranium shell. Tommy uses his mysterious energy powers to break free and help Vision escape. J.A.R.V.I.S., played by James D’Arcy, then makes the ultimate sacrifice inside Vision’s mind palace. He declares that “family is forever, and it’s worth the fight” before deleting his own code. He redirects all his processing power to save Vision and the remaining A.I.s. His sacrifice restores enough power for Vision to survive the attack. Tommy returns with a stolen vehicle and loads Vision into the car. The two drive off together as Paladin, and his men pursue them. Ultron, appearing in Vision’s damaged mind, comments on Tommy’s refusal to leave. “Like father, like son,” he tells Vision. Both deaths now fundamentally alter Vision’s journey and push him into the larger world he tried to avoid.
