Court remands four suspected IPOB members over alleged killing of DSS operative

The Department of State Services, DSS, on Monday arraigned four suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, over their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and killing of its officer, Ekpeyong Asuquo Owoh. The accused persons were arraigned on a six-count charge bordering on terrorism and the kidnapping of a DSS personnel, before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja. The defendants are Michael Okafor, aka Onyechimeleze; Chinedu Joseph Chukwudozie, alias Kante; Chibunna Olisa; and Chigozie Olisa, aka Ability. The prosecution alleged that the defendants conspired to commit acts of terrorism and were involved in the abduction of Owoh, a DSS operative, while he was travelling from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to Awka, Anambra State. They were further accused of taking the operative hostage and causing his death in the course of the alleged criminal operation. The defendants were also accused of belonging to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, ESN, as well as involvement in activities allegedly connected to terrorism. In addition, the prosecution alleged that the suspects were involved in unlawful possession of firearms, including AK-47 and pump-action rifles, in connection with the alleged offences. The charges followed investigations into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and killing of the DSS operative and the alleged activities of the defendants. However, when the charges were read to them on Monday, the suspects pleaded not guilty, prompting the DSS lawyer, Munirat Oladunjoye, to ask for date to commence their trial. NPFL: Kano Pillars unlucky in draw against Enyimba – Ogunmodede

Kano Pillars technical adviser, Daniel Ogunmodede, says that his team was unlucky in the goalless draw against Enyimba. The Sai Masu Gida were held to a 0-0 draw by Enyimba at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Sunday. Ogunmodede admitted his players failed to perform in the second half due to the harsh weather condition. The young tactician however commended his players for the courage and resilience throughout the game. “We were extremely unlucky, we only played half of the game, the weather condition in the second half wasn’t favourable,” Ogunmodede told 54footballx. “We didn’t play football in the second half as we only tried to redeem our image and fight. “We played against a team that were already wounded. NPFL: Imama credits tactical switch for Abia Warriors’ win over Bendel Insurance

Abia Warriors technical adviser, Imama Amapakabo, has praised his tactical ingenuity for the 3-0 win over Bendel Insurance in a matchday six fixture. Chukwumeka Obioma scored a brace while Etta Ikoi was also on the scoresheet for the hosts. Amapakabo said that his team capitalized on the formation change of their visitors. “I like playing against team’s that we have faced in warm-up matches, we were thinking they are going to come with a 4-3-3 but they came out with a 4-2-2 formation which they emptied their midfield as we congested our midfield,” Amapakabo reacted in a post-match interview. “It was a plus for us as it would have been more than five goals in the first half but unfortunately we didn’t convert most of the chances.
