Jigawa police arrest motorcycle-snatching syndicate over alleged killing of nine, theft of 33 motorcycles
The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested members of a suspected motorcycle-snatching syndicate for allegedly killing nine people and stealing 33 motorcycles across three states. In a statement on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiāisu Adam, said the syndicate specialised in motorcycle snatching, receiving stolen property and other violent crimes across Kaduna, Kano and Jigawa states. He said the breakthrough followed an incident in which one of the suspects allegedly attacked and snatched a motorcycle from an Okada rider in Aujara District, Jahun Local Government Area of Jigawa State. According to the statement, following the incident, the police, in collaboration with vigilantes, responded promptly, recovered the stolen motorcycle and apprehended the suspect. The arrest, it added, led to the identification and apprehension of other alleged members of the syndicate operating across the three states. āDuring a discreet and painstaking investigation, the suspects reportedly disclosed their involvement in the snatching of no fewer than 33 motorcycles belonging to innocent members of the public in different locations,ā the statement said. The police said the suspects also reportedly confessed to the alleged killing of nine persons in the course of their criminal activities across the three states. The arrested suspects were identified as Ado Saleh, alias Datti, 55, of Kawari village, Ajingi LGA, Kano State; Abdullahi Saidu, 37, of Kwanar Dangora village, Kano State; and Magaji Danladi of Auramo Quarters, Ringim LGA, Jigawa State. Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has defended President Bola Tinubuās decision to continue working while away from the country, saying the President can perform his duties from anywhere. Lawal made the remarks while speaking on Channels Televisionās inside Sources, where he defended President Bola Tinubuās absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), amid criticism of the Presidentās recent absence. The governor said the President had made it clear that his trip was a working leave, meaning he would continue carrying out his official responsibilities while away. āWhen the President travelled, he made it very clear that he was going on a working leave. Wherever the President is, he is working for Nigeria,ā he said. Lawal also said technological development had made it possible for government officials to work effectively from different locations. 2027: Lagos APC dismisses ADC Rhodes-Vivour, Gbadamosi ticket as āpolitical experimentā
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has dismissed the newly unveiled African Democratic Congress, ADC, 2027 governorship ticket of Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour and Babatunde Gbadamosi as a āpolitical experimentā. Lagos APC Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, made the assessment in a statement on Thursday, arguing that the emergence of the two opposition figures did not, by itself, demonstrate governing experience or the grassroots political structure required to administer the state. Oladejo said Lagos could not be treated as an āinternship centreā for political experimentation, stressing that running the state required experience in managing its bureaucracy, finances and complex infrastructure. He also questioned the executive experience of the ADC candidates, pointing to their previous participation in different political parties and electoral contests. According to him, Rhodes-Vivour had contested under the KOWA Party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Labour Party before securing the ADC ticket, while Gbadamosi had previously contested under the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party, ANRP, Action Democratic Party, ADP, and PDP. āThere is absolutely nothing wrong with political evolution, but party-hopping is not political institution-building. āLagos is a sophisticated economy with complex infrastructure and demanding urban-management challenges.
