Ujjain Road Widening Row! Traders Announce Indefinite Market Shutdown From October 12, Claim 70% Of Shops At Risk
Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): Traders have expressed growing anger over the proposed widening of the road from Mahakal Square through Gudri Chauraha to Gopal Mandir. In protest against marking carried out on buildings affected by the project at around 1 am on Sunday, the Traders and Residents Federation has announced an indefinite closure of markets across the entire area from Monday.Traders said the administration marked four metres on each side of the road during the night without prior notice or consultation. They alleged that the current road-widening plan would affect a large number of commercial establishments and threaten the livelihoods of hundreds of families. According to the federation, traders had protested after tenders were issued for the road-widening project. Local public representatives subsequently met traders and assured them that a solution would be sought through discussions. However, traders alleged that the marking was carried out late at night despite assurances that all stakeholders would be consulted. The move has also raised questions about the assurances given by public representatives. The Traders and Residents Federation claimed that the proposed widening could result in the complete loss of commercial establishments belonging to around 70% of traders in the area.In view of these concerns, the federation held a meeting on Sunday and decided to keep the markets closed indefinitely from Monday. It also resolved to organise peaceful protests in phases. Patni Bazaar Traders' Association members said the marking had been carried out at around 1 am without prior notice. He said the need of the hour was to regulate traffic in the area rather than widen the road. They said traffic movement could improve if problems such as e-rickshaws parked on the road

Bhopal's Halalpur Firecracker Market Sits On 1,500 Kg Of Gunpowder Amid Shifting Deadlock
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): As the festive season begins, demand and stocks of firecrackers are rising in Bhopal, raising safety concerns following three major fire incidents in market areas, including New Market. Against this backdrop, the Halalpur firecracker market in Bairagarh has emerged as a major concern, with nearly 1,500 kg of gunpowder permitted to be stored at the site.Only 15 shops and five large warehouses are licensed here, while more than 10,000 residents and over 100 shops in the surrounding area remain exposed to the risks posed by nearly 1,500 kg of gunpowder. The market is located within 100 metres of two petrol pumps, with densely populated Vijay Colony behind it. Three large hotels and more than 10 marriage gardens are also situated nearby, raising concerns that a minor fire could trigger a major disaster.Relocation stalled by High Court stayThe administration initiated action after a massive fire broke out at a Halalpur shop on June 12 this year. Flames reportedly soared 70-80 feet, destroying goods worth lakhs of rupees. The Bairagarh sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) subsequently issued a notice directing the market to be shifted to a less congested location in the Huzur area. However, traders obtained a stay from the High Court, bringing the relocation process to a halt. The district administration has argued in court that the population and surrounding conditions have changed significantly since permission was granted for the market. A proposed site inspected jointly by officials and traders in July also failed to resolve the deadlock, with traders citing inadequate safety arrangements. Traders, meanwhile, maintain that they are willing to relocate once the administration provides suitable land.Fire NOCs cancelled, PESO review pendingThe administratio

Blue Parijaat Foundation: Growing Goodness Through Education, Learning And Community Engagement (VIDEO)
“Let’s grow goodness” is the guiding philosophy of the Blue Parijaat Foundation. The idea is rooted in a simple observation: while there are people who need support and others who genuinely want to help, many do not know how to find meaningful avenues to contribute. For Manvi Singh, the founder-director of the organisation, this gap became evident through experience in the non-profit sector.Blue Parijaat Foundation (BPF) was envisioned as a way of bringing these people together and creating opportunities for individuals to contribute to the community. The idea of goodness, however, extends beyond social support. “It also encompasses growth and greenery, with an emphasis on creating a world where both can flourish,” shares Singh, a Powai resident.BPF’s Project Vijetaas emerged around 2020, when economic uncertainty caused many people to lose their jobs and incomes. Among those affected were students struggling to continue their education and pay their fees. The project was created to help such students complete their undergraduate and postgraduate studies, particularly those pursuing professional courses. The programme supports students in courses such as medicine, physiotherapy, pharmacy, paramedical studies, engineering and software-related fields. Among those who have completed their courses through the programme are a doctor, a physiotherapist, a pharmacist, a paramedical student, two civil engineers and software professionals.Beyond financial assistance, students receive support to develop skills needed to succeed, along with social and emotional skills. Monthly sessions cover areas such as self-awareness, financial and legal awareness, self-management and responsible decision-making. The programme is not limited to Mumbai, although most of its students are based in
