SM Warehouses, the logistics arm of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., has expanded its industrial property footprint to more than 126,000 square meters (sq.m.) of leasable space after turning over a new 40,000-sq.m. urban distribution hub in Pasig City to logistics partners of Shopee. The newly turned-over facility expands SM Warehouses’ logistics space dedicated to SPX and Scommerce Philippines, Inc., both partners of Shopee, the company said in a statement on Thursday. Scommerce provides warehousing and fulfillment solutions to sellers operating on Shopee, while SPX provides logistics and delivery services. “Our strengthening relationship with SPX and Scommerce reflects our commitment to supporting businesses and local micro, small, and medium enterprises with well-located, adaptable spaces that improve efficiency and enable long-term growth,” said Antonio Felix L. Ortiga, business unit head of SM Prime’s Commercial Properties Group. The Pasig facility will serve as a Mega First Mile urban distribution hub. It complements SPX’s larger regional fulfillment base, the 130,000-sq.m. Silangan Warehouse complex in Laguna. SPX previously signed a multiyear lease for about 86,000 sq.m. at the Laguna site to handle regional sorting and connect Southern Luzon to its nationwide network. “As e-commerce evolves, our logistics infrastructure must grow with it. The new Mega First Mile hub in Pasig brings us closer to Metro Manila customers, allowing us to increase processing speed and reduce delivery times,” Martin Yu, head of SPX Express, said. SM Warehouses is expanding its presence nationwide through ready-to-move-in buildings, greenfield spaces, and custom build-to-suit options ranging from 5,000 sq.m. to more than 120,000 sq.m. The logistics expansion is part of the SM group’s use of it

The logistics expansion is part of the SM group’s use of its integrated ecosystem, which includes office developments, logistics facilities, malls, hotels, and convention centers. SM Prime said the approach allows it to manage risk and support tenant growth even during broader market slowdowns. Transport connectivity also remains central to the Sy-led developer’s footprint. Future infrastructure projects, including the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) and Metro Rail Transit Line 7 (MRT-7), are expected to improve accessibility, reduce travel times, and further integrate SM Prime’s regional developments with Metro Manila. Shares in SM Prime slipped 0.33%, or six centavos, to close at P18.24 apiece on Thursday. — Juliana Chloe A. Gonzales
