PLDT retains second place in global child rights benchmark
PLDT Inc. retained its position as the second highest-ranked telecommunications company globally in the 2026 Children’s Rights and Business Benchmark by the Global Child Forum, marking its third consecutive year in the position. The listed telecommunications provider scored 9.9 out of 10 in the assessment, which evaluates how companies address children’s rights based on publicly available information, PLDT said in a statement on Sunday. The benchmark, developed in partnership with Boston Consulting Group, assesses corporate policies and disclosures concerning children’s rights across workplace, marketplace, community, and environmental operations. Global Child Forum said its scores do not measure actual compliance with corporate policies or the outcomes of programs. PLDT Chairman and President and Chief Executive Officer Manuel V. Pangilinan said the ranking reflects the company’s efforts to incorporate children’s rights into its operations. “Our consistent global leadership in children’s rights highlights the dedication of our people in embedding children’s rights into our daily operations. PLDT and Smart continue to recognize children as key stakeholders in building a digital society and thus strive to conduct our business in a manner that respects and safeguards the rights of every child,” he said. PLDT said the ranking reflects the efforts of the company and its wireless subsidiary, Smart Communications, Inc., to incorporate the Children’s Rights and Business Principles developed by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Save the Children, and the United Nations Global Compact into their operations. The telecommunications group said it had updated its child safeguarding policies following consultations and impact assessments involving Filipino teenagers. The p

THE BASES CONVERSION and Development Authority (BCDA) will auction within the year the long-term operations and management (O&M) of an 18-hole golf course and two hotels in Camp John Hay, Baguio City. At a briefing last week, BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Joshua M. Bingcang said the auction is scheduled fly the end of the year. He said the BCDA is currently looking at a 25-year contract for the O&M of John Hay Golf, which is being managed by the consortium of Golfplus Management, Inc. and DuckWorld Philippines until this year. “The investor has to shell out at least P500 million worth of improvement works for the golf course,” Mr. Bingcang said. The 5,517-yard course includes amenities like conference rooms, a veranda, and locker rooms with a jacuzzi and sauna. Also for bidding this quarter is the long-term management of John Hay Hotels Garden Wing (formerly The Manor at Camp John Hay) and Forest Wing (previously known as The Forest Lodge at Camp John Hay). “We foresee at least P1 billion capex (capital expenditure) investment, additional hotel rooms in that area, and the refurbishing of the facility,” he added. The John Hay hotels are currently under the management of Landco Lifestyle Ventures (LLV), a subsidiary of Landco Pacific Corp. Mr. Bingcang said Landco Pacific has expressed interest in the long-term O&M deal for the two hotels. “They have to bid… They have an advantage because they know the numbers,” he said. Meanwhile, the BCDA is in talks with Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) for a possible partnership to improve the management of the power supply in Camp John Hay, Mr. Bingcang said. “We hope to conclude the negotiations within the year, and it will be subjected to a Swiss challenge,” he noted. The BTr said this allocation involves the returned fund balance from unutilized subsidies remitted to the BTr following a Supreme Court ruling. It was followed by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) with P2.28 billion, the Philippine Crop Insurance Corp. (PCIC) with P863 million, and National Food Authority (NFA) with P855 million. Agencies with the lowest non-zero subsidies include the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority (P4 million), the Philippine Center for Economic Development (P5 million) and the Philippine Tourism Authority (P5 million).
