MP's Ujjain Bulldozer Action Intensifies! Fourth Ashram Construction Demolished In 15 Days, 20 More Structures Identified

Ujjain (Madhya Pradesh): The Ujjain Municipal Corporation (UMC) continued its crackdown on new constructions in the Simhastha area on Sunday, demolishing two halls of an under-construction building belonging to Shri Siddh Mahadev Sukrit Sanskrit Trust along Lalpul-Narsing Ghat Road. This marked the fourth demolition drive against ashram and monastery constructions in the past 15 days.Around 5 am, a UMC team reached the site with a Poclain excavator and demolished two halls of the building. Trust officials were given time to remove belongings from the remaining rooms, failing which further action would be taken. Around 20 constructions along the road have been identified for demolition.Following the development of Mahakal Lok, construction activity has accelerated on land belonging to ashrams and monasteries along Lalpul-Narsing Ghat Road, with several buildings being developed with luxurious facilities.Several construction projects covering thousands of square feet have come up on previously vacant plots. The latest action targeted the Shri Siddh Mahadev Sukrit Sanskrit Trust building on Narsing Ghat Road. The trust is headed by Indore-based Suresh Shahra, while construction was being supervised by his family members, Manish and Nitesh Shahra.According to trust caretaker Shivam Mishra, a revenue department team had visited the premises two days earlier and sought a written assurance that the building would be handed over to the administration during Simhastha. However, the discussions did not lead to an agreement, following which the demolition was carried out.The trust owns around one-and-a-half 'bighas' of land, equivalent to approximately 33,750 square feet. Construction was being carried out over a 50-by-100-foot area, covering nearly 5,000 square feet. The two-stor

Big Boost To Cancer Diagnosis In MP! CM Mohan Yadav Inaugurates PET-CT Centre At Indore's MGM, Four More Cities Next

Indore (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday inaugurated an advanced PET-CT scan centre at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College, calling the initiative an example of 'Seva Paramo Dharma' and an important step towards strengthening modern healthcare services in Madhya Pradesh.Addressing the gathering, Yadav praised Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences (SAIMS) founder-chairman Dr Vinod Bhandari for providing the advanced facility to his alma mater. He said the initiative reflected the spirit of service in healthcare and would help more patients access advanced diagnostic facilities at affordable rates. The Chief Minister emphasised that the PET-CT scan facility would be particularly beneficial for patients requiring early and accurate diagnosis of cancer and other serious diseases. The technology helps doctors assess the extent of a disease and plan appropriate treatment, potentially improving outcomes through timely medical intervention. The centre has been established by the Sri Aurobindo Group under a public-private partnership (PPP) project entrusted by the Madhya Pradesh Public Health Services Corporation Limited. According to the group, the facility will also benefit patients receiving treatment under Ayushman Bharat and other government healthcare schemes. The project is set to expand beyond Indore, with the group planning to establish PET-CT scan centres at four more government medical colleges in the state: Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, Gajra Raja Medical College in Gwalior, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College in Jabalpur and Shyam Shah Medical College in Rewa. The expansion is aimed at strengthening access to advanced cancer diagnostics across Madhya Pradesh, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances for spe

Siddhant Padte’s Waste Matters Foundation Is Tackling Marine Litter on Elephanta Island Through Community Action and Sustainable Waste Management (VIDEO)

Elephanta Island has always held a special place in Siddhant Padte’s heart. Though he grew up in Mumbai, he remained closely connected to the island where his roots lie, returning whenever he could. In 2011, after completing his culinary arts studies in London, he took up the opportunity to run the restaurant his father operated on the island. It was here that he came face to face with the mounting waste problem, a sight that would change the course of his life and set him on a journey to restore the island’s environment. The marine litter covering the island is waste that does not originate here but is washed ashore with every high tide, owing to the island’s geographical location. Home to UNESCO World Heritage-listed caves, Elephanta Island attracts around 3,500 tourists every day. Yet, its beaches were once clean, offering children a place to play in the sand. “As a child, I remember playing on these beaches. Today, that is no longer possible,” says Padte. The stark contrast between those childhood memories and the island’s polluted shores became the turning point that prompted him to take up the fight against marine litter.Around 75,000 kg of waste has been recycled, while 25,000 kg has been sent for incinerationThe journey started with the launch of the ‘I Love Elephanta’ campaign, bringing together local businesses, ferry operators, tour agents and guides to take collective responsibility for keeping the island clean. “But these clean-up drives made me realise that we needed a better solution, as the trash was still going to landfill,” says Padte, who is a full-time chef. “In 2018, I established the Waste Matters Foundation (WMF). That was also the year I met my dear friend, Capt Ashwin Malwade, who is now the director of the organisation.”In 2024, WMF launched Pro
