2027: Adeola vows to capture Ogun share of corporate taxes lost to Lagos
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has vowed to aggressively pursue and recover corporate taxes and revenue generated by industrial entities operating within the state but remitting their top-level executives’ taxes to Lagos State. Adeola, who currently represents Ogun West Senatorial District, made the declaration during an interactive session with journalists at the Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Abeokuta, as he outlined his political agenda for the 2027 governorship election. Addressing newsmen on his economic strategy on Friday, the lawmaker expressed concern that despite Ogun State being recognised as Nigeria’s primary industrial hub, its internally generated revenue (IGR) fails to reflect its extensive industrial base due to structural tax leakages. He attributed the disparity to the location of corporate headquarters, where manufacturing plants and operations are based in Ogun State while corporate headquarters, along with high-earning directors and senior managers, remain situated in Lagos. “Many of these industries establish themselves in our state but take their head offices to Lagos. By doing so, the return on investment from establishing in my state cannot be compared with what it should be, because the top echelon, all the managers and directors are in Lagos, and their taxes are paid to Lagos,” Adeola said. Comparing the fiscal metrics between both states, the senator noted that Lagos achieved a ₦1.6 trillion revenue benchmark while Ogun State continues to lag behind, estimating that over 30 per cent of Lagos’ corporate tax yields originate from economic activities anchored in Ogun State. Trump urges Xi to halt Chinese assistance to Iran
President Donald Trump implored his counterpart, President Xi Jinping, to halt any Chinese assistance to Iran during their White House meeting. United States Ambassador to China David Perdue disclosed the issue raised, reiterating Washington’s position that any help Beijing gives Tehran is intolerable. The envoy said President Trump “did a great job making sure China knows this is unacceptable,” adding that Beijing had shown action on the issue. “We’ve seen movement on that already,” Perdue told Fox News. “That’s what commitment is. They assured us they aren’t doing that.” Trump and Xi met at the White House again on Friday and visited the National Archives as the Chinese leader wrapped up a three-day conference. Dollar-to-naira exchange rate today, September 25, 2026: Naira depreciates against USD across FX markets
The naira depreciated against the US dollar across the foreign exchange markets on Friday, ending the week on a negative note. Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) data showed that the naira weakened to N1,329.51 per dollar on Friday, compared with N1,328.67 recorded on Thursday at the official foreign exchange market. This means that, on a day-to-day basis, the naira declined by N0.84 per dollar against the US currency at the official FX market. Similarly, at the parallel market, the naira weakened to N1,390 per dollar on Friday from N1,385 traded on Thursday. Further analysis by DAILY POST showed that on a week-on-week basis, the naira strengthened by N1.68 per dollar at the official FX market. The latest movement came as Nigeria’s external reserves sustained their upward trend, rising to $54.86 billion as of September 24, 2026, according to data from the apex bank.
