Modern Family Duo Returns With Wild New Comedy Series at Fox

Photo Credit: ABC Fox has greenlit a new live-action comedy from the creative team behind one of the most successful sitcoms of the past two decades: Modern Family. The network confirmed the project will debut during the 2027-2028 season. It is Fox’s first live-action comedy series order in more than two years. Fox’s Mammoth reunites Modern Family veterans Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker Christopher Lloyd and Danny Zuker have reunited for Mammoth, a high-concept comedy based on Mike Bubbins’ British sitcom of the same name. The two Modern Family veterans will write, showrun, and executive-produce the series. Fox Entertainment Studios handles production, with Mark Linsey and Angie Stephenson of BBC Studios Los Angeles and Bubbins also serving as executive producers. The premise centers on Coach Tony Mammoth, a high school gym teacher with an outsized personality. In 1983, an avalanche buries him during a ski trip and freezes him in time. He wakes up four decades later convinced the world changed unnecessarily. He still sports his Burt Reynolds moustache and drives his prized Trans-AM. When he returns to his old job, he finds that modern rules, relationships, and realities barely resemble the era he left behind. Tony Mammoth brings a specific energy to the screen. He believes he already figured out manhood decades ago. That confidence now collides with a society that operates differently. The setup gives Lloyd and Zuker room to explore generational friction without relying on easy jokes. Christopher Lloyd described the character’s appeal in direct terms. “Tony Mammoth genuinely believes he mastered manhood the first time around, making his new reality the ultimate wakeup call and greatest challenge in an otherwise flawless life,” said Lloyd. “He’s charming, wildly self-assured, hopelessly out of step and, despite his many blind spots, impossible not to root for.” Danny Zuker highlighted the second-chance angle. “Tony gets the second chance so many people wish for, only to find that his bravado doesn’t quite match his new reality.” He continued, “We love his shameless confidence, his fascination with a world he barely recognizes, and the big heart underneath it all. He’s a lot. We can’t wait to bring him to Fox.” The series gives Fox a recognizable comedy brand to anchor its lineup (via Variety).
