Benue: Makurdi doctor was arrested, not abducted – Police
The Medical Director of Multicare Hospital, Makurdi, Benue State, Dr. Jonah Ogbaji, who was initially reported to have been abducted while attending to patients, has been found in police custody. Ogbaji was reportedly taken from the hospital premises at Ankpa Quarters Ward, Makurdi, on Wednesday night, prompting concerns among his family and colleagues. A daughter of the medical director had raised the alarm after he was reportedly taken away by individuals who arrived at the hospital in a Toyota Sienna vehicle. Following the development, the family was said to have visited several police stations within Makurdi in an attempt to determine his whereabouts. The daughter later informed journalists that the family received information indicating that her father had been taken away by police operatives deployed from Abuja. She said the reason for his arrest was not immediately known to the family. However, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the Benue State Command, DSP Peter Aondongu, clarified that the doctor was not abducted but arrested by a special police squad in connection with an ongoing investigation. “The Command has received enquiries regarding reports of the alleged abduction of a medical doctor and owner of a hospital in Makurdi. “Upon verification, the report is false. The doctor was not abducted. He was arrested yesterday (Wednesday) at his hospital by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) attached to the Force Intelligence Department (FID), Abuja, in connection with an ongoing investigation. “The specific circumstances surrounding the investigation are not yet known to the Command. “Members of the media and the general public are therefore advised to disregard reports of his alleged abduction or kidnapping, as they are false,” the PPRO stat

ADC Rivers governorship candidate, Ibraye dumps party, says 2027 tickets on quicksand
The 2023 governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Dr Tonte Ibraye, has resigned from the party, citing concerns over its internal leadership crisis and the foundation of its 2027 electoral process. Ibraye announced his resignation in a letter dated Thursday and addressed to the ADC Ward Chairman in Degema Ward 16, Bille. He said the party’s internal leadership crisis, particularly the dispute surrounding the David Mark-led faction, had made it impossible for him to remain a member. According to him, he had remained committed to the party’s principles of internal democracy, fairness and respect for legitimate structures, but recent developments had undermined those values. Ibraye accused some new members of attempting to take over legitimate party structures across the country despite ongoing legal disputes over the party’s leadership. He warned that allowing a disputed leadership to determine candidates for the 2027 elections could create problems for those seeking office on the party’s platform. “The continued attempt by a disputed leadership to determine ADC candidates for the 2027 elections raises questions about the legitimacy and stability of such candidatures,” he said. Dangote Refinery boosts petrol supply to 35.9m litres daily as fuel imports drop 26%
Dangote Refinery’s premium motor spirit, PMS daily receipt to Nigeria’s domestic market surged to 35.9 million litres per day in August, as imports dropped significantly to 14.6 million litres per day. This is according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority’s, NMDPRA August factsheet released on Thursday. According to NMDPRA’s data, Dangote Refinery’s petrol receipt to the Nigerian market increased by 39 percent in August from 25.8 million litres per day in July. Similarly, crude receipt at Dangote Refinery rose by 17 percent to 0.683 million barrels per day in August from 0.585 million barrels per day recorded in July. In contrast, fuel imports dropped by 26 percent during the period under review, from 19.7 million litres per day recorded in the previous month. This development comes at a time when NMDPRA’s data showed that PMS consumption in Nigeria dropped by 14 percent to 41.5 million litres per day from 48.3 million litres per day.
