Kogi vigilante service arrests man suspected of belonging to kidnapping syndicate

The Kogi State Vigilante Service (KSVS) has arrested a 24-year-old man suspected of belonging to a kidnapping syndicate operating around the boundary between Kogi and Enugu states. The suspect, identified as Muhammad Babuga, was arrested at Igabada, a border community between the two states, at about 7 p.m. on Thursday. In a statement issued on Saturday, the service’s spokesman, Idris S. Idris, said operatives of the Igalamela Command apprehended Babuga following credible intelligence. He said the suspect allegedly confessed to being a member of a criminal gang involved in kidnapping. According to the statement, Babuga was among those allegedly involved in the crime who had previously been released by the gang after a ransom was paid. Reacting to the arrest, the Comptroller-General of the Kogi State Vigilante Service, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Anataku, commended the operatives for their commitment and effective security operations. He urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against criminal activities and reduce crime to the barest minimum. Anataku also thanked Governor Ahmed Ododo for his continued support and encouragement, which he said had boosted personnel morale and improved the service’s operational effectiveness. The comptroller-general called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could help prevent crime and apprehend suspected criminals. He said public cooperation remained vital to strengthening security and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state. State Police: Tor Tiv, Ochi’Idoma demand traditional rulers’ involvement in recruitment

Traditional rulers in Benue State, led by the Tor Tiv, Prof. James Ayatse, and the Ochi’Idoma, His Royal Majesty Agaba-Idu Elaigwu Obagaji, have called for the inclusion of traditional institutions in the recruitment, operations and supervision of the proposed State Police. The royal fathers made the appeal during a colloquium on State Police organised by Lawyers Alert in partnership with the Bureau of Homeland Security. The event was held at the Father Alia Conference Hall of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in Makurdi. Speaking on the importance of community-driven policing, the Tor Tiv noted that the persistent security challenges in Benue had also affected traditional institutions. He maintained that involving traditional rulers in the establishment and management of State Police would be essential to achieving its objectives. Ayatse urged the government to engage traditional authorities in developing the proposed security outfit, particularly in determining the criteria for recruiting and screening personnel. “Traditional institutions are closer to the people and have a better understanding of the communities they serve,” he said. According to him, traditional rulers possess valuable knowledge of the people in their respective communities, which could help security authorities assess the character, conduct and backgrounds of prospective recruits. Nigerian campaign worker arrested by ICE after guilty plea in US

A Nigerian national who worked as a canvasser for a Democratic congressional campaign in Pennsylvania has been arrested by United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ICE, after pleading guilty to a disorderly conduct charge arising from a public exposure incident. The US Department of Homeland Security, DHS, identified the man as Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe in a statement issued on October 7, 2026. According to the department, Igbojekwe was arrested in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania, on September 27 over allegations of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He subsequently pleaded guilty to the disorderly conduct charge. “ICE subsequently arrested him on October 1, following his conviction,” the statement said. The DHS disclosed that Igbojekwe was working as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district, when the incident occurred. Citing local media reports, the department said he was “found with his trousers off and exposing himself in a residential neighbourhood near a park where residents, including children, were present.” Reacting to the case, ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall criticised Stelson for having the Nigerian national on her campaign team. “It’s unbelievable that Janelle Stelson would employ an illegal alien to work on a Congressional campaign, let alone a pervert who exposed himself in public. “Every single day, the men and women of DHS are working hard to target and remove dangerous illegal aliens like this sicko from our communities. “The Trump Administration will always put the safety of the American people first,” Wall said.
