US charges 19 over alleged drug-trafficking network in Dallas

The United States Department of Justice has charged 19 people allegedly connected to a major drug-trafficking operation in Dallas, Texas. The charges followed an investigation conducted under the Homeland Security Task Force, with several federal agencies involved, including the US Attorney’s Office, Drug Enforcement Administration, DEA, Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, ATF. US Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, John Raybould, said the suspects were allegedly involved in a deeply established drug-trafficking network operating in Dallas. “According to the allegations, these 19 defendants operated one of the most entrenched drug-trafficking networks in Dallas,” Raybould said. He added, “This case reflects a very hard truth: when drug trafficking enters a neighbourhood, that’s when freedom leaves it, and in this case, freedom didn’t just fade; it was forced out directly and deliberately by this criminal enterprise.” Authorities said the coordinated investigation and prosecution effort was part of a broader push to dismantle violent criminal organisations and enhance public safety across North Texas. The Justice Department stressed that the charges are allegations and that all 19 defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they are proven guilty in court. Independence Day: Buy one, get one free on King Kosoko cinema tickets

Teqsus Studios has announced a buy-one-get-one-free ticket offer for its historical epic, King Kosoko: The Battle For Lagos, at selected cinemas nationwide on Independence Day. The studio said the offer would apply to all showings of the film on Thursday, October 1, as Nigeria marks its 66th independence anniversary. The film, directed by Adebayo Tijani, stars Femi Adebayo as Oba Kosoko and has grossed over N65 million at the Nigerian box office since its release on August 28 through FilmOne Entertainment. It tells the story of Oba Kosoko’s resistance to British imperial power and his fight to defend the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Lagos, a struggle that led to the bombardment of Lagos in 1851, remembered as the Salt Water War, Ogun Olomiro. The film is produced by Ayo Ajayi and Segun Olojo-Kosoko, a Lagos prince and seventh-generation descendant of Oba Kosoko. Ajayi, who is also executive producer, said the offer was the studio’s way of connecting the national celebration to the story on screen. “Independence Day is exactly what this film is about, a people determined to govern themselves,” Ajayi said. “There is no better day for Nigerians to see the story of a king who refused to surrender his kingdom’s sovereignty,” he added. Ajayi said the offer was an invitation to Nigerians to celebrate the country with a story of their own. The film parades an ensemble cast including Odunlade Adekola, Prince Jide Kosoko, Fathia Balogun, Gabriel Afolayan, Femi Branch, Tina Mba, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule, Aishat Lawal, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Niyi Johnson and Sola Kosoko. It is presented in Yoruba with English subtitles. Take steps immediately – Rivers Assembly tasks Gov Fubara as flood take over places

The Rivers State House of Assembly has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to take urgent measures to address the flooding affecting communities across the state. The Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule, made the call on Tuesday when he visited some flood-ravaged communities. DAILY POST reports that persistent rainfall in parts of the state, including Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas, had triggered flooding, with several houses submerged. During a plenary on Monday, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Linda Somiari-Stewart, raised a motion, drawing the attention of the lawmakers to the situation. Following the motion, the Speaker and some lawmakers visited the affected areas in the state capital. During the assessment visit, the Speaker said though the government may have taken some steps to tackle the issue, a lot still needs to be done. “We are calling on the Rivers State Governor to take immediate steps to ameliorate the situation. That is why we have a government. “That is why we have funds. A lot more needs to be done to help our people,” the Speaker said.
