APC wins all 17 chairmanship seats in Yobe LG elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has won all 17 chairmanship seats in the local government elections held in Yobe State on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Announcing the results at the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) headquarters in Damaturu on Sunday, the chairman of the Commission, Dr Ibrahim Mohammad Yabani, described the election as hitch-free. “The elections were successfully conducted across the 178 electoral wards and 17 local government areas of the state, with 10 political parties participating and fielding candidates for both chairmanship and councillorship positions. “This robust participation reflects how keenly contested the elections were in several local government areas in the state,” he said. According to him, votes were counted and collated after the close of polls, with councillorship results declared at ward level and chairmanship results declared at local government collation centres. Announcing the summary, the YOSIEC chairman declared: “Bade LG, Musa Kalan Dagona (APC), 54,312 votes; Bursari LG (APC), 24,331 votes; Damaturu LG, Bukar Adamu (APC), 18,465 votes; Fika LG Abdulmumini Usaini (APC), 61,326 votes; Fune LG, Baba Goni Bade (APC), 74,411 votes ; Geidam LG, Alhaji Mohammed Musa (APC), 35,832 votes; Gujba LG, Alhaji Dala Mala (APC), 27,900 votes; Gulani LG, Alhaji Dayyabu Ilu (APC), 35,999 votes; Jakusko LG, Umaru Aguwa Jakusko (APC), 47,653 votes; and Karasuwa LG Alhaji Umara Mohammed (APC), 39,320 votes. “Machina LG, Idriss Mai Bukar (APC), 24,092 votes; Nangere LG, Samaila Musa (APC), 37,780 votes; Nguru LG, Mohammed Ahmed Mairami (APC), 45,836 votes; Potiskum LG, Alhaji Salisu Muktari (APC), 58,705 votes; Tarmuwa LG, Mohammed Lamido Musa Tarmuwa (APC), 19,500 votes; Yunusari LG, Hon. NPFL: Buter laments Sporting Lagos’ missed opportunity against Barau FC

Sporting Lagos head coach, Jeffrey Buter has lamented his team’s home draw against Barau FC, DAILY POST reports. Buter’s side battled Barau FC to a 1-1 draw in their Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, matchday six encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan on Saturday. Barau FC took the lead through Joseph Atule’s goal from the spot on the stroke of half-time after Stanley Oganbor was fouled in the box. Sodiq Ayoade restored parity for Sporting Lagos in the second half. Buter said his team deserved more from the keenly contested encounter. “Yeah, disappointing, like you said. I think we deserved more than a draw. We should have won this game,” Buter told the club’s media. “I think another day, the officiating is better. I think we will get maximum points from this game. Calabar erosion: Nigerian govt moves to protect NNPC jetty, Naval assets from ecological disaster

The Federal Government has moved to urgently tackle the growing threats to key strategic national assets, including the Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS Victory installation, and an Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited jetty supporting the nation’s energy infrastructure, following an ecological emergency in Calabar, Cross River State. The Federal Government’s Ecological Project Permanent Secretary, Dr Aishetu Mohammed, made this disclosure in a statement at the weekend. The intervention follows the failure of the Channel 2 underground drainage system along Anansa Road in Calabar, which triggered extensive environmental destruction, infrastructure damage, disruption of economic activities and loss of life. Mohammed said the resultant ecological crisis posed wider national security and economic concerns, which she said were beyond a routine drainage problem. Speaking while receiving a Cross River State government delegation led by the Commissioner for Environment, Bassey Offiong Mensah, Mohammed said, “The intervention will begin with a joint technical assessment to determine the causes of the crisis and identify sustainable remedial measures. We do not come into a state without partnership with the state and the people. “We do not take culture for granted. We listen to the people and tailor our interventions accordingly,” Mohammed said.
