(Photo Credit: Netflix) Eddie Murphy is returning to the world of television in a major way, and will star in his first-ever scripted series. According to a recent report from Deadline, Murphy is set to star in the upcoming series The Chairman, from Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner, which is in the works at Peacock. The series is a major first for Murphy, as it’ll be the first time he’s ever starred in a scripted TV show in his illustrious career. Of course, Murphy is no stranger to TV. The legendary actor has appeared on Saturday Night Live and has had several TV specials for his stand-up comedy. However, this will be the first time he utilizes his acting chops for a longer form series. Little is known about The Chairman as of now, but it’ll be Weiner’s first show as a writer since 2018’s The Romanoffs, an anthology drama that aired on Prime Video in 2018. What movies has Eddie Murphy starred in recently? Although Murphy is a legend in the world of Hollywood, his output over the years has slowed a bit. Since 2016, Murphy has appeared in just eight movies, including 2019’s Dolemite Is My Name, 2021’s Coming 2 America, 2023’s You People and Candy Cane Lane, and 2024’s Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. His last acting role came in 2025’s The Pickup. A documentary about himself, Being Eddie, also released on Netflix in 2025. Up next for Murphy is another return to a storied franchise in the form of Shrek 5. The fifth Shrek movie is set to release on June 30, 2027, and will see Murphy reprise his role as Donkey.
