Chelsea have been dealt a potential injury blow after Lee Carsley confirmed Jamie Gittens was returning to the club for treatment after sustaining an injury with England Under-21s. Gittens was forced off with an apparent ankle injury during England's 4-2 win over Kazakhstan in European Championship qualifying. The winger made way in the 39th minute and was later spotted on crutches, and he has already been ruled out of their final two qualifying games. The extent of Gittens' injury has not been disclosed yet, with Chelsea's next game coming against Bournemouth on October 10. Sarr’s move to Liverpool was ‘never going to happen’, says Parish
Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish said Ismaila Sarr's proposed summer switch was "never going to happen" due to a huge gap in valuation of the Crystal Palace forward. Sarr was linked with a late move to Liverpool in the transfer window, with the Reds aiming to strengthen the right side of their attack following Mohamed Salah's departure. The Senegal international registered 22 goal involvements (21 goals, one assist) for Palace in all competitions last term, leading them to the Conference League title. He has netted 33 goals and provided eight assists in 94 appearances across all competitions for Palace since joining them in 2024, earning him interest from Liverpool. Sarr was reportedly the subject of a £50m bid from Andoni Iraola's side, a figure Parish said Palace did not consider remotely sufficient to sanction a departure to Anfield. "It's unfortunate for Ismaila, but that wasn't really a situation that was of our doing," Parish told The Athletic. "A club came in and, with the amount of money they bid, they couldn't seriously think in that market it was going to get done at that level. "If you're selling players for £90m, and then you want to bid us half of that for the replacement, it's fine, you can do it. But it's never going to happen." Liverpool's move for Sarr came after failing in their attempt to sign Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, while they also attempted to lure Yan Diomande and Ibrahim Mbaye to Anfield. Sarr had also attracted interest from Turkiye earlier in the window, with Palace rejecting an offer reportedly worth around £26m from Galatasaray. He had made a habit of scoring against Liverpool, too. Since the 2019-20 season, only Ollie Watkins and Erling Haaland (both eight) have netted more goals in all competitions against the Reds than Sarr (seven).
