2028 Olympics Qualifier: Nine Super Falcons players arrive in Ikenne camp

Nine players have reported to the Super Falcons’ camp in Ikenne as preparations gather pace for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying encounter against Comoros. Dynamo Brest forward, Blessing Nkor and Edo Queens trio Tumininu Adeshina, Christiana Uzoma and Valentina Uroko are among the first players to arrive at the team’s camp. Farida Abdulwahab, Joy Igbokwe, Fatimoh Solaty, Glory Edet and Sandra John have also joined the squad. More players are expected to arrive at the team’s base at AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Monday (today) as interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen steps up preparations for the crucial second-round tie. Eguavoen has invited 28 players for the encounter, with the Super Falcons aiming to secure a place in the third round of the qualifying campaign. Comoros is billed to host the first leg on Friday, October 9, before Nigeria takes its turn as the designated home side in the return fixture on Tuesday, October 13. However, both legs will be played at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a CAF-approved stadium for international matches. 2028 Olympics Qualifier: Nine Super Falcons players arrive in Ikenne camp

Police arrest suspects over murder of Gov Adeleke’s ally

Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of some suspects in connection with the killing of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as ‘Emir’, an ally of the state governor, Ademola Adeleke. Oyeyemi was reportedly killed at Mayfair Park, Ile-Ife, following a meeting involving members of the Accord on Sunday, September 13, 2026. The meeting was said to have centred on discussions concerning proposed changes to the leadership structure of the park system by the Osun State Government. Following the killing, attention turned to identifying those responsible for the attack, with associates of the deceased reportedly vowing to seek justice for his death. An associate of the deceased also claimed that some of the attackers were dressed in Amotekun Corps camouflage when they allegedly carried out the attack. However, the Osun Amotekun Corps denied that its personnel had been arrested in connection with the murder. The Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu, explained that some operatives were handed over to the police to assist with the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident. “The Corps Commander of the Osun Amotekun Corps handed the operatives over to the police to assist with the investigation and help unravel the circumstances surrounding the Ile-Ife attack,” Idowu said. He added that the officers handed over to the police had previously been attached to the activities of a chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, before the incident. Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed that arrests had been made but said he could not immediately establish whether Amotekun personnel were among those detained. “We are conducting series of investigations, part of it is the death of Emir;

Nations League: Man City suffer Haaland injury blow

Manchester City will be sweating on Erling Haaland’s fitness after he limped off against Portugal in a UEFA Nations League clash on Sunday. Haaland asked to be substituted in the second half of the match and was replaced by Jorgen Strand Larsen in the 67th minute. The striker had played every minute of their previous three fixtures during this international break. He scored a brace in the 3-2 victory over Denmark, before netting in the 2-1 defeat to Portugal in the first meeting. City manager, Enzo Maresca, will be waiting for a medical update on Haaland ahead of their Premier League fixture at Liverpool on October 11. Haaland has scored seven goals in seven games across all competitions for City so far this season. City will be without Phil Foden for the trip to Anfield as he continues to serve his red card ban, while there are also doubts surrounding Nico O’Reilly and Antoine Semenyo.
