Maharashtra Govt Makes Aadhaar Verification Mandatory For Property Registration From October 1

Mumbai, September 30, 2026: The Maharashtra Revenue Department has made Aadhaar-based identification mandatory for registration of property documents, with the new rule coming into effect from October 1. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said documents will not be registered without Aadhaar verification, in a move aimed at preventing fraud in property transactions and making the registration process more transparent.The decision has been taken on the instructions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Bawankule said. A notification to this effect has already been published in the Maharashtra Gazette.Aadhaar Required For 63 Document TypesAadhaar identification will be required for 63 types of document registrations, including property sale and purchase, mortgage deeds and partition-related transactions.Bawankule said the Registration and Stamps Department handles the registration of documents related to immovable properties and the new system would help curb fraudulent practices involving fake parties and witnesses.“The move will reduce human intervention in the registration process, prevent fraudulent transactions and make the overall system more efficient and transparent,” he said.Rules For Those Without AadhaarUnder the new rules, those who do not have an Aadhaar number will have to submit proof of having applied for Aadhaar along with other government-issued identity documents and documents establishing their relationship with the person concerned in the transaction. Navi Mumbai Railway Theft Accused Women Escape RPF Lock-Up Using Sarees As Rope, One Arrested From Nerul

Navi Mumbai: Two women accused of stealing electric overhead wires from a railway godown in Juinagar allegedly escaped from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) lock-up at Belapur railway station in the early hours of Monday by using their sarees to climb down from the building. While one of the accused was recaptured from Nerul within hours, the second remains absconding.Escape Took Place During Guard Change AbsenceThe escape took place at around 2.13 am when a woman head constable deployed on guard duty at the lock-up reportedly went to the bathroom. Taking advantage of her absence, the two women allegedly reached through the lock-up door, pulled and broke the lock from outside and opened the latch before making their way to the rear balcony.According to police, the women removed their sarees, tied them to a generator installed on the balcony and used them as a makeshift rope to climb down from the building. They then fled from the spot.CCTV Footage Examined After EscapeThe head constable noticed that the women were missing after returning to the lock-up. The RPF immediately checked CCTV footage and launched a search operation in the surrounding areas.The accused, Rupali Kailas Kuhade, 30, and Shalibai Ashok Pawar, 40, were arrested on September 26 by a joint team of the Belapur RPF and Vashi Government Railway Police in connection with the theft of electric overhead wires from a railway godown at Juinagar.
