The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, said a lack of coordination had slowed the delivery of reliable electricity supply to Nigerians. The Minister made this disclosure on Monday at the announcement of the Off-Grid Stakeholder Coordination in Abuja. According to the Minister, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Adelabu, the fragmentation of the country’s power sector is a major hindrance to rapid electrification. “Fragmentation is the quiet tax every under-coordinated sector pays: in duplicated effort, missed investment opportunities, and slower delivery of power to the Nigerians who need it most,” he said. On his part, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, highlighted the need for a centralised platform to help the industry identify existing projects and allocate resources efficiently. “As Nigeria’s off-grid energy sector continues to expand in scale, investment, and institutional participation, there is an increasing need to establish an Off-Grid Sector Coordination Secretariat that will provide a structured platform for alignment across government institutions, development partners, private-sector operators, and other stakeholders,” he stated. The 2027 Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said the Obi/Kwankwaso movement will not provide money to party agents for the purpose of inducing voters during the 2027 polls. Obi made this declaration on Monday while fielding questions at a town hall meeting in Sokoto. The former Anambra State governor said the practice of giving money to voters on election day is vote-buying, stressing that it was among the factors contributing to the persistence of poverty in the country. “We are not ready to give money to party agents to entice voters. That is vote-buying, and it is part of the reason why poverty continues to rise in the country,” Obi said. US targets foreign officials prolonging parental child abduction cases

The United States has moved against people responsible for, or complicit in, impeding the resolution of international parental child abduction cases, as well as their family members. The action targets individuals who intentionally obstruct the prompt resolution of such litigation by prolonging family separations and blocking the return of children to the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in a statement on Monday, announced a visa ban on culpable foreign government officials, judges, judicial administrators, and law enforcement officials. It also affects those who intentionally fail to implement or comply with laws, policies, or court orders to resolve child cases and return them to their country of habitual residence. “This policy gives the Department a new accountability tool to press non-compliant countries to meet their obligations,” the top diplomat noted. Rubio said that protecting American children abducted across international borders and reuniting them with their parents remains a top priority for the Trump administration. Parental child abduction is a felony offense under state laws across all 50 U.S. states, and a federal crime under the International Parental Kidnapping Crime Act when a child is illegally taken abroad. The global community also tackles the issue under the framework of the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction, which was ratified in the U.S. in July 1988.
