Wukari council disowns ‘Fulani bandit’ report attributed to Aku-Uka
The Wukari Traditional Council has disowned a social media report claiming that the Aku Uka of Wukari, Dr Ishaku Adda Ali, declared that Fulani bandits had overrun the ancient Kwararafa Kingdom. The palace described the report as false, mischievous and capable of creating communal disharmony among different ethnic groups. The clarification was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists in Jalingo on Tuesday by the Wukari Traditional Council through the Nene of the Jukun people, Barrister Danjuma A. Adamu. The council said the report, titled, “We Are Under Siege: Taraba Monarch Breaks Silence as Fulani Bandits Overrun the Ancient Kwararafa Kingdom,” was attributed to a speech delivered by the Aku Uka at the 2026 Assembly of the ethnic nationalities of the old Kwararafa Confederacy, organised by the Kwararafa Development Forum in Abuja on September 19, 2026. “The social media publication falsely attributed statements to the monarch which were not contained in his speech, particularly the allegation that a specific ethnic group was responsible for insecurity in the region”, the council said. The council quoted the Aku Uka as saying in his speech that communities of the old Kwararafa Confederacy had contributed to Nigeria’s development in agriculture, the armed forces, natural resources and culture, but continued to face challenges including inadequate infrastructure, limited economic opportunities, marginalisation and discrimination. The monarch, according to the statement, called for “fairness, equity, justice, security and inclusion” in all spheres of national life. Ondo alcohol poisoning: 48 dead, 182 affected as panel confirms methanol in ‘monkey tail’
The NMA-NAFDAC Liaison Committee has confirmed that high concentration of methanol in a local concoction known as ‘monkey tail’ is responsible for the recent mass deaths in Ondo State. Chairman of the committee, Dr Azim Adekunle Ashimi, disclosed this in an update on Tuesday, citing laboratory findings by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC. According to the committee, samples collected from Odigbo, Irele and surrounding LGAs contained high concentrations of methanol and cannabis indica. It said out of 182 affected, 48 persons have died, five rendered permanently blind and two others suffered partial visual loss. Ashimi explained that methanol is an industrial solvent not intended for human consumption, adding that when ingested, the liver metabolises it into formic acid which attacks the optic nerve and retinal cells. He said this leads to irreversible blindness, severe metabolic acidosis, multi-organ failure and death. The committee said victims presented with severe headache, abdominal pain, generalised weakness, altered consciousness, breathing difficulty and blurred or “snowfield” vision after taking the drink. He advised healthcare providers in Ondo and neighbouring states to maintain high suspicion for patients with sudden visual impairment or unexplained metabolic acidosis after consumption of local alcoholic or herbal mixtures. Ashimi called for prompt resuscitation, airway management, correction of acidosis, administration of antidotes and urgent haemodialysis where indicated, and immediate reporting of suspected cases to health authorities and NAFDAC. New PDP executives inaugurated in Adamawa
New leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been inaugurated in Adamawa State. The new party executives were sworn in on Tuesday during a ceremony held at Mahmud Ribadu Square, Yola, with national party officials urging them to work towards strengthening the party. The chairman of the National Electoral Committee that supervised the election of the new state executives, Jalo Ganga, stressed that the new executives have full liberty to carry out their responsibilities, as all caretaker committees had been dissolved. The new chairman of the PDP in Adamawa State is Belmond Dogo, with Yusuf Hamidu as vice-chairman and Shekarau Yerima as deputy chairman, while John Tunor will serve as legal adviser.
